The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for London and the south east.
Torrential downpours could lead to localised surface flooding and difficult driving conditions as a weather front moves in between 1pm and 11pm today, Friday June 2.
There is also the risk of frequent lightning and the chance of hail across Friday afternoon and evening.
The Met's chief forecaster has said the storm front is a result of "very warm, humid air coming up from France" that brings with it the threat of thunderstorms.
This could potentially lead to between 25-30 mm of rain in an hour.
