Wildlife Aid is appealing for donations as it welcomes two hedgehogs through its doors.

The two were found wandering alone during the day and are considerably underweight- to sucessfully hiberante hedgehogs must be at least 600g while these weighed 90g and 202g respectively.

The wildlife charity will care for these little critters and 100 other hedgehogs who are spending the winter safe and warm inside.

The hedgehog population in the UK is in serious deline- it has been depleted by 96.6 per cent since the 1950s.

Founder of the Wildlife Aid Foundation Simon Cowell said: "We really need to take care of them.

"Hedgehogs do no harm to anything- they actually help gardeners."

However, donations are vital for this wild animal charity- the hedgehogs are expected to eat 15,000 cans of dog or cat food over the winter.

Mr Cowell said: "We are doing everything we can to help these hedgehogs. "Any help would be greatly appreciated."

If you would like to help give a prickly friend a meal you can donate towards their care online at bit.ly/wafdonate(worldwide) or by text (UK only) by texting WILD5 to 70300 to give £5
