A teenage fundraiser hopes to make his final fun day in memory of his grandfather the biggest ever.

Ted Williams has staged events at John Fisher School to raise money for Heavers Court in Selhurst for the past two years after it cared for Albert Mackey before he died in 2011.

He was inspired after doing work experience at the home’s Marsh and Willow day care service following the death of his grandad, who had Alzheimer’s disease.

Now aged 18 he plans to go to university, and has said the fundraiser on July 11 will be the last at his school playing fields in Plough Lane, Purley.

Mr Williams, of Birdwood Close, Selsdon, said: “My work experience placement taught me so much and is what has motivated me to fundraise.

“The money raised will provide extra activities and outings for the people who go there and hopefully improve their quality of life.

“I really enjoy doing it but it is a lot of work in between my A-levels.

“It’s a good thing to do and I would like to think he would be very proud.

“It’s my last one so hopefully it will be the biggest one.”

All the money raised will be split between the home and his school’s fund for a new science block.

Mr Williams is holding a raffle and auction on the day and is writing to companies to ask for items for both.
