A 49-year-old man has died after being found unresponsive at The Little Bar in Tooting.

There was a police cordon outside the popular Mitcham Road bar on Thursday afternoon.

The bar was still closed today, Friday, April 10, with flowers and candles placed in the doorway.

The man has been named locally as the bar owner, Martin Pannett.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 2.30pm today, Thursday, April 9, to reports of an unresponsive man at a bar in Mitcham Road, Tooting.

“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended and found the 49-year-old man.

“He was taken to a south London hospital where he later died.”

His death is not being treated as suspicious.


Over the last two days people have expressed their shock and posted tributes on social networking sites. Many are from Tooting-based businesses.

One person described him as a superb host who invested masses in Tooting, while another described him as lovely.
