A horrified mother cradled a young moped driver in her arms after the teen crashed into the back of a vehicle.

Louise Green, 37, was driving along Central Parade in New Addington last Thursday morning when she heard a crash on the other side of the road.

After phoning emergency services she rushed to his aid and was given guidance on what to do by the emergency call handler on the other end of the phone.

Mrs Green said: "I could not see any breath coming out and the 999 person told me to put him on his back and I was shouting at him to try and get him to wake up.

"I was covered in blood and petrol and I did what I could to keep him alive.

"I’m glad I was there and I did what I could.

"Being a mother I thought ‘This is someone’s child and they are dying on me’.

"I just wanted him to be alive and just wanted him to be okay.

"He had cracked his head with no helmet on.

"One of his eyes was shut and the other one was pouring with blood and I thought he was a goner.

"It could have been my child and I hope someone would have done the same things for them."

A few minutes after the collision, at about 11.20am on February 26, a paramedic arrived and took over the medical treatment of the boy.

And an air ambulance landed on a patch of grass about 30ft away.

The paramedic got him breathing again and Mrs Green, from Addington Village, and several bystanders had to help by holding the boy down.

How we reported the crash last week: Air ambulance called to moped and car crash in New Addington

The 15-year-old moped rider, who has not been named, was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

A Croydon police spokesman said it is believed that another moped was being ridden by two people nearby at the time of the collision.

One of these riders got off their moped after the crash and drove the damaged one away before police arrived.

It was found a short time later abandoned in nearby Chertsey Crescent and police discovered it had been stolen from an address in Penge on February 18 Bromley police is investigating.

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
