Pressure is being put on Boris Johnson to get on board the Zone4Croydon campaign to rezone East and West Croydon stations.

Croydon Central MP Gavin Barwell and the Croydon and Sutton London Assembly member Steve O’Connell wrote to the Mayor of London outlining the reasons why the change should happen.

And will be meeting him at City Hall within the next few weeks to put their reasons to him personally.

Facts pointed out by the Conservative pair:

  1. A seven-day Travelcard covering zones 1 to 5 costs £53.40 while the cost for Zones 1 to 4 is £45, a difference of £8.40 a week.
  2. An annual Travelcard for zones 1 to 5 costs commuters £2,136 while the equivalent cost for zones 1 to 4 is £336 less.
  3. As the crow flies, East Croydon is 9.3 miles from Trafalgar Square, with West Croydon 9 miles away.

Chigwell is 11.7 miles from the centre, but sits in Zone 4.
4. In the west, Hounslow Central is 10.6 miles from the same point and in the east Abbey Wood is 10.8 miles away, both also in zone 4.
