Crowds will be counting down to a cracking Christmas when Gareth Gates turns on Croydon’s Christmas lights.
The 2002 Pop Idol finalist plays Prince Charming in this year’s Fairfield Halls pantomime and will be joined by other cast members for the switch on ceremony at about 6.15pm on November 13.
Festivities will end with a fireworks display from the top of Centrale Shopping Centre.
Throughout the afternoon roaming street performers, including Christmas fairy stilt walkers, will be mingling with the crowds.
And musicians, singers and dance acts will be performing in North End, Croydon, from noon.
Croydon BID chief executive Matthew Sims said: “This year’s Christmas lights switch-on event promises to be a real cracker.
“We’ve got a bumper programme of great, all-round activity lined up throughout the afternoon, building up to the fantastic, star-studded switch-on climax which, this year, will go with an extra bang, thanks to the generous support from Centrale Shopping Centre who are funding the dazzling pyrotechnics.
“The aim, as ever, is to ensure that the festive season gets off to a great start here in Croydon and everyone gains a positive, lasting impression of the town.
“I really would urge all those who work, live and do business here to support the event, get involved and join in the fun while taking advantage of everything that Croydon has to offer.”
