Author Dame Jacqueline Wilson has been made chancellor of Roehampton University.

The leading children’s author will be appointed in a ceremony today (Wednesday, October 15).

Prof Wilson has been teaching master classes in children’s literature at the university and has been a pro-chancellor since 2011.

The former children’s laureate is to replace veteran BBC world affairs editor John Simpson.

Professor Wilson said: "It’s an extremely interesting time in higher education at the moment and I'm so happy Roehampton is doing so splendidly, creating the highly employable graduates needed in today's economic climate."

Dame Jacqueline OBE, DBE, has published 100 children’s books, which have sold more than 35m copies.
