A woman who died after allegedly jumping in front of a train last night was an 18-year-old from Croydon, police said.

The emergency services were called to Wimbledon train station just after 10pm last night to reports of a woman being struck by a train.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and her death is not being treated as suspicious, a spokesman from the British Transport Police said.

The spokesman said: "Her family has been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The London Ambulance Service sent crews including a hazardous area response team and an ambulance but a spokesman said the woman was dead at the scene.

Firefighters from Wimbledon fire station were called at about 10pm to reports of an incident but were not required.

The woman’s death is the second since safety fencing was installed at the station this year.

A woman died after she was hit by a train on Monday, July 21.
