Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry will help design the next stage of the Battersea Power Station development.
It will be the first building in London designed by the architect, whose previous projects include the Guggenheim Museum, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Ray and Maria Stata Center.
Mr Gehry will work alongside Foster + Partners, who are based in Wandsworth, to create the high street phase of the redevelopment.
The retail pedestrian street will be the gateway to the development, as well as the new Northern Line extension.
It will me made up of 1,200 residential units on either side of the high street, a 200 room hotel, 350,000 sq ft of retail space and a library.
Gehry and Partners will design the residential buildings to the east of the high street, with Foster + Partners taking control of buildings to the west.
Mr Gehry said: "Our goal is to help create a neighbourhood and a place for people to live that respects the iconic Battersea Power Station while connecting it into the broader fabric of the city.
"We hope to create a design that is uniquely London, that respects and celebrates the historical vernacular of the city."
Grant Brooker, design director of Foster + Partners, said: "We moved our own office to Wandsworth almost 25 years ago – the borough is very important to us, so we were absolutely delighted to be chosen to be part of this inspiring regeneration project for the Battersea Power Station redevelopment."
