A car burst into flames in Leatherhead last night.

Leatherhead firefighters were called to Lovelace Close, Effingham Junction, at about 10.30pm.

Watch manager Mark Stuart said two firefighters extinguished the fire using a hose reel.

He said the cause was probably related to fuel and there could have been a leak. Mr Stuart said: "The car was a write-off.

"It was right in the middle of the road so the residents were obviously a bit concerned because they wouldn’t be able to get out in the morning if it wasn’t cleared."
