One man is on the hunt to find a piece of history lost to time.

In 1936, the Carshalton, Beddington and Wallington District Hospital was gifted a memorial plaque in honour of Charles and Frances Dingwall.

The plaque read: "The bed in this room is endowed to the everlasting memory of Charles Arthur Dingwall and his wife Frances Kathleen by their devoted and grateful children and grandchildren.

"They live for many years at Shepley House, Carshalton and were always mindful of the sick and need and the welfare of the parish."

But following the hospital's conversion to private housing in 2015, the plaque was seemingly lost.

Now the couple's great-great-grandson Johnnie Dingwall is on a mission to re-claim that piece of history.

"In the ward a memorial plaque was mounted to the one wall and it is this splendid piece of history I am anxious to trace," he said.

"It would be hard to understand how such a fine memorial could possibly be destroyed following the sale of the hospital and I would dearly love to find it, if indeed it was saved."
