A Sutton man who has been suffering from leukaemia has received the best possible news ahead of Christmas.

Terry Dawkins, 49, has found a matching stem cell donor from Germany.

He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia after having a stroke last year and his only chance of survival was to find a matching stem cell donor.

His wife, Rebeckah, confirmed that Terry has now found a match.

She wrote on social media: "We have our Christmas miracle. A donor has been found in Germany. Terry begins his conditioning chemotherapy and stem cell transplant will be next Friday.

"The past few weeks have been quite horrific, sorry to everyone we have not been able to reply to. Thank you to everyone for everything you have done to help us."

In October, Laura Weeks, who used to work with Rebeckah, told Sutton Guardian that the situation was "quite desperate".

"There was one point recently where he was in intensive care and they were going to put him on life support and they advised him to say goodbye."

Terry is being treated at St.George's Hospital in Tooting.

We wish Terry well in his recovery.
