A construction firm has visited a school in Wallington to teach pupils about how to stay safe near building sites.

This is part of an education programme between schools and David Wilson Homes - the company working on the 725 new apartments in the New Mill Quarter in Hackbridge.

The construction team and the site mascot visited Hackbridge Primary School this week, October 18.

Yvonne Adnyana, health education coordinator at Hackbridge Primary School, added: “We thoroughly enjoyed working with David Wilson Homes, and we are thankful for the opportunity for all our children to hear first-hand the dangers present on a building site.

"The fun and engaging nature of the assembly allowed the children to really take on the message about safety on site, and we hope that they will practise this safety going forwards.’

The New Mill Quarter development site is a minute walk from the school.

Natalie Perry, director of sales & marketing for David Wilson Homes, commented: “As a local housebuilder, we are dedicated to ensuring that the next generation are educated on the risks of being on or around a development.

"So when building in an area we are keen to work with the local community to ensure that children, who might see a site as more of a big playground at first, are safe.

"We thought this project with schools was a fun and engaging way for children to understand how to stay safe on site, but also to see the work that goes into building the houses that many of them live in today.’

The apartments are due to be unveiled in 2019 with the development including a GP surgery, a supermarket and an assisted living care home.
