A new pound shop has come to Sutton High Street with hundreds of people waiting from the early hours to benefit from the opening day deals, according to the shops manager.

PoundStore was opened on September 30 with £3,000 of giveaways being distributed to the first 200 customers.

The new business, which cost £400,000 to set up, has created 25 jobs.

Managing director, Gerry Loughran, said: "Our Sutton PoundStore opening and fun day was a huge success, with hundreds of customers coming through our doors and queuing patiently from as early as 3am to grab all the bargains we have to offer.

“We believe that the UK customers want fantastic value for money at a £1 or less and we will offer that daily. We look forward to welcoming all our customers at Sutton, where we provide a wide range of branded products and great bargains every day.”

The Mayor of Sutton, Jean Crossby, is scheduled to visit the new store this week.

There are 25 PoundStore's planned to be opened by the end of 2017 with 75 more scheduled for next year.
