Paul Scully featured on BBC Radio 5 live on Sunday (July 23) and he was asked what Sutton and Cheam was like in regards to MP’s being "despised".

“You get a mixture,” Mr Scully said on the Pienaar’s Politics show. “During the election campaign there was a lot of abuse for a lot of colleagues so I didn’t get it too badly.

“I got name calling but that’s water off a ducks back so I didn’t really mind that. I think I got a decent majority so hopefully that says something.”

The Sutton and Cheam Conservative MP was also asked whether he would ever like to lead the Tory Party.

Mr Scully suggested that being head of the Conservatives wouldn’t be for him.

As Parliament is halted for summer recess Mr Scully said he would not be going away on holiday because of commitments in Sutton.

He stated: “I’ve got a big job to do in Sutton because I’m trying to get a hospital built, so I’ve got to knock on as many doors as I can and speak to a load of people and get the constituents on board to build a new healthcare facility.”
