Changes made to proposed CPZs
Pay to park: Spelthorne Council has changed the boundaries of some of its proposed CPZs
Pay to park: Spelthorne Council has changed the boundaries of some of its proposed CPZs

Despite a low response rate from Staines residents over plans to charge them to park outside their homes, amendments have been made to the proposals.

Spelthorne Council asked for residents' thoughts on the introduction of controlled parking zones (CPZs) and held a number of road shows, displaying the plans for eight zones across Staines.

A leaflet was distributed to all residents in the area, which the council said had a disappointingly low response rate of 13 per cent.

Portfolio holder for the environment Councillor Gerry Forsbrey said: "We are grateful to all those who took part in this important exercise.

"The work we have done subsequently is a result of listening closely to the views of people and reflects a great deal of detail.

"We think that what we now have is a good balance between providing residents with some certainty about parking."

As a result of the feedback received the original plans have been changed and some boundaries and zones adjusted.

The original zone six, which includes Leacroft and Priory Green, and zone four have been removed from the scheme.

The southern edge of zone five has been extended to include Knowle Green and stretches further north to take in part of Kingston Road.

Zone eight will now include George Street and zones three and seven will be reviewed.

Modified plans will be displayed at the council offices. After the final revision, staff from both Spelthorne and Surrey County Council will refer the matter to elected members for a final decision.

If agreed, a further consultation on the detailed proposals will be arranged, where residents will have the chance to object.
