Princess Anne opens the new halls of residence at the Royal Holloway University's Egham campus
Princess Anne has officially opened the new halls of residence at the Royal Holloway University's Egham campus today.
The Princess Royal, who is the university's chancellor, toured the development this morning visiting a selection of study bedrooms and facilities, and met staff involved in the design and construction of the buildings as well as the architects and construction team.
The college's new halls, Williamson, Butler and Tuke are named after former principals Marjorie Williamson, (1962-1973), Dr Lionel Butler, (1973-1981) and Dame Margaret Tuke, Bedford College principal, (1907-1929).
The halls names continue the tradition of paying tribute to significant figures in the university's history.
“We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to the college once more to celebrate the official opening of this first-class accommodation."

The new dorms are part of a £21million investment in campus accommodation at the 135-acre site.
Professor Stephen Hill, Royal Holloway's current principal, said: "We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to the college once more to celebrate the official opening of this first-class accommodation.
