Sutton is the London’s greenest borough, according to the findings of a recent study.
All of the top eight of the capital’s top green boroughs are south of the river, with Kingston, Bexley, Richmond, Greenwich, Merton, Bromley and Lewisham making up the list after Sutton.
Islington, Westminster and Tower Hamlets came bottom.
South London boroughs came out on top for renewable energy consumption (Bexley, 51 per cent), green spaces (Bromley, 55 per cent) and recycling (Croydon).
Home services’ experts London Cleaning System calculated the ‘greenness’ of London’s boroughs across five factors – recycling, air pollution, renewable energy, energy efficiency and percentage of green space.
The study found 53.2 per cent of Bromley is green space, as is 49.7 per cent of Richmond.
Although Croydon comes close to the bottom of the pack when it comes to renewable energy, the borough is top for recycling.
While Sutton did not top the charts on any single category, its strong performance across the board saw it reach the top of the pile.
