Entertainment, free sweets, hugs and other acts of kindness were all on offer in Richmond town centre to help people get through 'Blue Monday'.

The third Monday in January is often said to be the most depressing day of the year and Be Richmond - the face of Richmond Business Improvement District - stepped in to cheer people up.

An early recipient was Sarah Wickenden, from East Twickenham, whose cheeky boxer dog was secured by entertainers when it slipped the lead in The Quadrant.

Delighted owner Sarah said: “It’s been lovely, especially the good deed. The entertainers were knights in shining armour..”

Be Richmond chairman, Erick Kervaon, said: “At this time of year it’s easy to feel down, even in a beautiful town like Richmond. We’re delighted to offer a bit of cheer to residents, workers and visitors.”
