Richmond residents are being urged to get vaccinated against the flu this winter.

Cllr David Marlow, cabinet member for Adult Services and Health said: “Don’t put off getting a flu vaccination.

“If you’re eligible get it – it’s free and it’s the best protection against an unpredictable virus.

“Vaccinations are available at your GP surgery, local pharmacy or, if you are pregnant, ask your midwife if they offer it.

“Even if you have had it last year, it’s vital you get it again this year as it protects against different strains of flu which can evolve each year.”

Dr Graham Lewis, local GP and chairman of Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group added: “The best way to protect yourself and your family this winter is to get the flu vaccination.

“It is free on the NHS for:

• Children aged 2 and 3 (nasal spray)

• Children in reception class and school years one to four (nasal spray)

• Children and adults with a long term condition

• Pregnant women

• Everyone over 65 years old

• Carers

“Flu vaccination is available from your GP practice.

“It is also available from many pharmacies, often on a walk-in basis, throughout the borough.”

People who have not yet turned 65, but will do so on or before March 31, 2018, are still eligible to receive the vaccine this year.
