Richmond Council will be offering heating grants of up to £6,000 as it encourages residents to ‘WRAP up warm’ this winter.

As part of the council’s campaign, the Wandsworth and Richmond Assessment Point (WRAP) service is providing free home visits offering advice and information on heating, insulation, benefits and health for older residents and those with long-term conditions.

As well as the grants, which are subject to a survey, during the visits advisors may offer you, for free, any of the following:

• Radiator reflector panels- subject to a survey

• Draught proofing- subject to a survey

• Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

• Electricity monitor

• Low energy bulb

• Radiator bleeding

• Water saving devise including saving shower head

• Specialist advice on lowering your heating bills whilst keeping warm

• Benefits checks

• Advice on guided walks and healthy lifestyle opportunities in the borough

• Advice on getting out and about, and getting involved in the community

Mr Barfoot from Barnes, who was referred to the service last winter, said: “I’ve had trouble with the landlord for months and have had no hot water and had to use the cooker for heating.

“I appreciate all the support you’ve given me to get the free [central heating] grant and can’t believe the difference it’s made – thank you.”

Councillor David Marlow, cabinet member for adult services and health said: “Making sure you and your home stay warm will help to keep you well over the winter months.

“Many people do not realise that living in a cold home, particularly if you have a long term condition can cause serious health problems.

“The council’s service can make a real difference to your health and wellbeing over winter and I urge people to take advantage of it if they are eligible.”
