A 15-year-old has reportedly been sexually assaulted in Richmond.

The teenager was walking towards Chertsey Road, by St Margaret's Roundabout, at around 10.10pm on Monday (July 17) when police say she became aware of a man who began following her.

The man, who has been described as a white man, aged approximately 50 years old, around 5ft 10in tall, and of medium build, continued to walk behind her along Winchester Road, Drummonds Place, and past Beaconsfield Road.

As the victim reached Marble Hill Gardens. police say the suspect grabbed her from behind a then sexually assaulted her.

After being disturbed by a member of the public, who called police, the suspect ran off.

The police have confirmed that the girl was not injured and since the incident the local neighbourhood policing teams have conducted extra patrols in the area.

There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing as they continue to look for the attacker, who they are led to believe was clean shaven with short grey hair and wearing a light brown jacket and dark brown trousers.
