  • The Queen and Prince Philip visited Paragon House in Brentford where they were greeted by students and staff at the university.
  • The royal household has special links with Thames Valley University through its recently launched butler training course.
  • Using the electronic 'iStan' dummy, nursing students showed Prince Philip how they would treat a patient who was having an epileptic fit.
  • The Duke of Edinburgh looked on with great interest, jokingly asking a trainee nurse from Italy whether he came to Britain ‘for the weather or the food’.
  • The university also regularly supplies the royal household with chefs, some of whom demonstrated their 'larder kitchen' talents, including fruit carving, preparing canapes and sugar spinning.
  • A number of special guests were on hand to greet the royal party during the visit, including celebrity chef Anton Mossimon.
