Camilla & police horses

  • The Duchess of Cornwall visited the Metropolitan Police Mounted Training Establishment in East Molesey on January 29, 2009.
  • The centre is considered the gold standard of specialist horse training throughout the world. It is where animals begin their career before being assigned to a specifically-trained officer at one  of seven stables in London.
  • The Duchess met officers and learning how horses are trained to work at public order events.
  • Camilla showed her affection for animals as she smiled and fed the horses polo mints.
  • The Duchess spoke with farrier Tony Poole, who she had met before when he used to shoe horses for the Royal Family in Windsor.
  • “Horses do break the barrier between the public and officers,” said Head of training, Inspector Alan Hiscox. A lot of people who may not normally approach us do when we are on horseback.”
