Man faces 'siege' murder bid charge

A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder and serious assault following an alleged siege in a flat at the weekend.

Two men were arrested by police after allegedly barricading themselves in a house in Moorhill Crescent, Newton Mearns, and setting fire to it.

Police were called to the property near Glasgow at around 5pm on Saturday to a report of a "disturbance".

The 50-year-old householder, who was suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken to Southern General Hospital in Glasgow along with a friend who was alleged to have been seriously assaulted.

Kevin Crossan, 24, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday accused of attempted murder, assault to severe injury and a breach of the peace.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

A 22-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in the Western Infirmary in Glasgow where he is being treated for smoke inhalation.

He will appear at Paisley Sheriff Court when he is released from hospital.
