Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are to stand trial again over the murder of Coulsdon student Meredith Kercher.

The pair spent four years in jail for murder, but were freed after a successful appeal in October 2011.

But this morning Italian Supreme Court judges ruled they should face a retrial over the 2007 killing.

Miss Kercher, 21, was found semi-naked with her throat cut in the bedroom of the house she shared with Miss Knox and two other women in Perugia in November 2007.

The Leeds University student had only been in Italy for two months as part of a year long course as part of her degree, before she was killed.

Prosecutors believe she was killed in a brutal sex game that went wrong.

Rudy Guede was convicted in a separate trial and sentenced to 16 years. The Ivory Coast national was found guilty of sexually assaulting and stabbing Miss Kercher.

Guede admitted being at the house on the night of her death, but denies murder.
