The route for the Olympic Flame, and Croydon’s first official torch bearer, have been announced.
Community fundraiser and foster carer Jonathan Dean will carry the flame on one of ten legs through Croydon on Monday July 23.
The route will see the flame arrive from Bromley and travel through to Sutton.
From Crystal Palace Park, it will travel along Church Road down South Norwood Hill and onto Thornton Heath high street.
The torch then travels along Brigstock Road, down London Road into the town centre, and out along Croydon Road towards Beddington.
Councillor Sara Bashford, cabinet member for customer services, culture and sport, said: “It’s great that the torch route runs through many of our most densely populated areas – I hope that means that thousands of people will come out of their homes on the day to cheer on the runners. This is a unique spectacle and something that we can all truly be proud of being a part of.”
Nominated by his daughter, Mr Dean, 54 from South Croydon, will carry the flame for one mile before handing onto the next nominee, with 115 torchbearers expected to carry it each day.
