A new club will make sporting history when its members shoot hoops for the first time this weekend.

Merton’s first wheelchair basketball club will launch in Mitcham on Sunday, February 19.

The session, running from 11am to 12.30pm at the Canon’s leisure centre in Madeira Road, will be the first in a new programme of weekly classes, open to all ages and abilities.

The first four sessions will be free, with a £2 charge for each one after that.

The scheme was officially unveiled by instructors and representatives from sports federation British Wheelchair Basketball earlier this month.
