Droves of Wimbledon shoppers pledged to buy sustainable products during a fair trade fair set up outside the Centre Court Shopping Centre.
Campaigners appealed to passers-by to make a commitment to always buying the Fairtrade alternative of just one product as part of the Big Swap initiative.
The shoppers were encouraged to write down their pledge and place it in a giant teapot made by staff at Tariro’s fair trade coffee shop in Morden, forming the centre piece of the event.
Shas Sheehan, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Wimbledon, helped run the fair. She said: ”It’s wonderful so many people are willing to pay just a little bit extra to give the poor in developing countries a fair price.
“The Big Swap is a brilliant idea now people can buy around 4,500 Fairtrade products.”
