Mitcham’s groundbreaking new community centre will open its doors next week.
The newly-named Acacia Intergenerational Centre will be the first of its kind in the country.
A spokesman for Merton Council, creators of the £3.5m facility, said the aim of the centre was “breaking down barriers and fostering mutual understanding between young and old”.
An open day to celebrate the launch of the new centre, offering a taste of the some of the activities and classes on offer, will take place from 11am to 3pm on February 19.
The final parts of the centre, a horticultural garden and adventure playground, are expected to open by June this year.
Councillor Debbie Shears, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “The modern and innovative facilities on offer at the Acacia Intergenerational Centre will serve to provide residents of all ages with a host of memorable and, in some cases life-changing, experiences all under the one roof.”
