Pedestrian seriously hurt after South Wimbledon crash

A pedestrian is believed seriously hurt after a crash outside South Wimbledon Tube station.

Merton Road has been closed in both directions as ambulance paramedics treat the woman on the footpath near the station.

One eyewitness reported hearing a “truly terrible noise” as the woman was hit by a car about 6.30pm.

“The injured woman was lying on the ground,” the witness said.

“I don’t think she could feel her legs.”

Police have closed Merton Road and an air ambulance is expected soon.

The woman, aged in her mid-30s is believed to have suffered two broken legs in the crash.

There was just chaos on the road last night after the accident - my bus driver got lost on the diversion route and proceeded to kick us all off his bus at Wimbledon village!
I hope the woman is ok.
