A couple are using a bicycle made for two to embark on a charity fundraising mission.

Tasha Procter and Jim Lawton are riding a tandem 225 miles to Devon to take part in the Just a Walk to the Beach event.

They were inspired to support the cause, which is raising money for charities the Sick Children’s Trust and Jeans for Genes, after their godson William battled with a life threatening genetic disorder.

Before the ride Ms Procter, a Wimbledon resident, said: “This will be a real test of stamina and teamwork. I have never done anything like this before, but it’s a challenge and we should all push ourselves to do things out of the ordinary.

“It’s also the least I can attempt to do considering what William and his family have been through.”

When they arrive at Saunton Sands in North Devon the couple will complete the final part of the challenge - taking a dip in the sea, using bodyboards brought all the way from London.

They set off on Monday, and are aiming to arrive at their destination on Sunday. To sponsor the couple visit justawalktothebeach.org.
