Plans for a cement batching plant close to a primary school, children's playground and a nature reserve have been removed from Merton Council planning committee's agenda for the second time.

The site sits on the border between Tooting and Wimbledon.

Merton Council says that the application is having a full reassessment by senior officers.

This is the second time the plans have disappeared from the agenda after they were first due to be discussed at a planning committee on April 20.

They were due to be discussed at this month's meeting, on May 28, but were absent from the agenda when it was released this week.

The controversial proposal for the plant in Waterside Way, Tooting, was brought to the committee after a number of objections about the potential air and noise pollution so close to a residential area. It is thought that the plant would also increase lorry traffic in an already congested area. The Environment Agency and Wandle Valley Forum are among the bodies requesting the application is refused.

Residents have complained that on both occasions they were not alerted to plans being removed from the agenda.
