More misery has been piled on commuters as Southern rail drivers start a three-day walk out.

The rail franchise warned passengers that there would be limited services or no services at all on some lines  due to industrial action and told commuters to travel only if necessary.

ASLEF union members are in a bitter dispute with Southern bosses over driver-only trains.

Commuters took to Twitter to vent their frustration over the strikes this morning as union members walked out today (Tuesday, January 10).

Further industrial action is set to take place on Wednesday, January 11, and Friday, January 13.

Jessica Hope said: “There was a certain added injustice at actually having to pay to get on the (train) at #EastCroydon for such a poor service today #southernstrike.”

Steve Strickland said: Seems like @SouthernRailUK safety concerns don’t extend to claustrophobia or panic attacks #southernstrike.

Richard Westcott simply tweeted: “#southernstrike East Croydon.”

But some commuters took to Twitter to praise or blast the union over its decision to strike.

Chris Joyce said: “These constant strikes over little, petty differnces are a complete shambles. Pure selfishness of the highest form. #southernstrike.

Solidarity with @ASLEFunion & @RMTunion members striking for public safety on @SouthernRailUK #southernstrike.
