Half a century's worth of history was on display as St. John Fisher RC Primary School as they celebrated their 50th anniversary.

50 years after opening in 1966, the west Wimbledon school celebrated its birthday by displaying memorabilia over the years.

Various pieces of art, photographs of the school throughout the years, and various other items were lent to the school for the exhibition.

The school has grown from its original four classes, to a thriving school of over 450 pupils and 50 staff.

Janine Kenna, head teacher, said: “Over the last few months, events such as a 1960s style street party, a black and white dinner dance for parents past and present, and, most recently, an exhibition of photos, mementos and memories of the last 50 years, have all helped the pupils of 2016 understand how their school has changed and grown in the last half century.

“We are looking forward to even more events in the coming months, and, having recently opened a time capsule from the school’s 25th anniversary celebrations in 1991, the pupils are busy thinking about the contents for our 2016 time capsule – and where to bury it.”
