Merton police are seeking a second man following the arrest of a man on suspicion of possession of firearms.

Armed police swarmed Lower Downs Road this morning, Tuesday, August 16, after initially being called to reports of a man who was believed to have a firearm on a train at Wimbledon station shortly before 9am. 

The road was closed as armed police moved into Dennis Park Crescent, and arrested a man at 10.47am. 

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of a class B drug. As of 6.30pm this evening he remained in custody at a west London police station. 

Merton police have now released a photograph of a second man they are looking for. Both men were travelling on a train from Clapham Junction to Wimbledon.

A spokesman said: "He was on the train to Wimbledon this morning and may be connected to the firearms related incident."

The man is described as black man, in his early 30s, and bewteen 5ft 7ins and 5ft 10ins tall. 

He was wearing a dark coloured heavy jacket - which police have described as "unusual" given the warm weather - with baggy ripped jeans. 

He was been described as 'dishevelled' in appearance. 

It is believed that the man boarded a bus from Wimbledon town centre heading in the direction of south Wimbledon.
