A man and a woman found dead in Wimbledon after officers forced entry into their luxury apartment block following a suspected gas leak have been named as Martin and Catherine Joyce.

The bodies of the couple were found in their flat in Oxford House, a complex of up-market flats in Parkside, opposite Wimbledon Common and next to Parkside Hospital on July 21.

Mr Joyce, 68 and his wife, 64, were founders and directors of company Insignia Partnerships Limited, which was registered to the Oxford House address.

According to business information website Endole, the company was registered in 1996 but had recorded a negative net worth since 2010. Its worth was last listed, in 2015, as -£87,629.

The Metropolitan Police said they were alerted to “concerns for the welfare of the occupants of a flat in Oxford House” at 1.15pm on Thursday, July 21.

A spokesman for the police said: “We forced entry and immediately officers raised concerns about the potential presence of gas. Residents were evacuated as a precaution.”

Police are still investigating the cause of death but have indicated they are not treating it as suspicious.

Westminster Coroners’ Court confirmed that an inquest was due to be opened for Mr and Mrs Joyce.

The A219 Parkside was closed for several hours on July 21 while emergency services rushed to Oxford House.
