Three Blue Badge fraudsters have been fined more than £200 each after falsely using disabled badges, one of which belonged to a dead man, to park for free.

Wayne Jemmott, 45, of Cavendish Road, Sutton, was ordered to pay £200 for parking his Audi on a single yellow line in Orme Road on March 24 using a badge that belonged to a dead man.

Thambyappah Bahirathan, 62, of Darley Gardens in Morden, parked his Honda in a disabled bay in Lodge Place, Sutton, on May 16 and displayed a badge belonging to his wife, who was at home.

Nicola Rowles, 39, of Middlesex Road, Mitcham, parked her Ford Focus, in a disabled bay also in Lodge Place, and displayed a badge belonging to her grandmother.

They were sentenced at Croydon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 21, after pleading guilty to using the Blue Badges without the named badge holder present.

Chairwoman of the Environment and Neighbourhoods Committee, councillor Jill Whitehead, said: “We have only a limited number of disabled parking bays in Sutton and it is important that they are reserved for people who are genuinely disabled.”
