The Wimbledon Guild Village Fair is never short of a touch of drama and pageantry, but excelled itself this year when one couple made it the location for their wedding photos.

When Hannah Self, 34, and Chi Man, 36, discovered the Wimbledon Guild event would feature knights, jousting, and other medieval accoutrements the super-fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones decided it incorporate it into their own big day.

Ms Self, general manager at London’s Go-Ahead Bus Company, said: “We were absolutely thrilled when Wimbledon Guild told us they had arranged for us to meet the knights and play a part in the jousting tournament.

Wimbledon Times:

“It was like being in a mini Game of Thrones episode with all the thundering horses and scary-looking suits of armour, but the knights couldn’t have been nicer. I truly felt like a princess and Chi was my knight in shining armour.”

The couple, of Hackbridge, held their ceremony at the nearby Sacred Heart Church on Edge Hill, where Ms Self is a Eucharistic minister, and toured the fair with their wedding party and guests after the pictures.

They were among the nearly 40,000 people who travelled to Wimbledon Common for the fair, which took place on Saturday.

As well as two jousting tournaments, visitors to the 14th running of the fair enjoyed displays by birds of prey from the Hawking Centre; dancing revues and musical performances by groups including Wimbledon’s Young Flyers, the Hummingbird Choir, Feature Creep and the Rob Booth Band; tennis coaching sessions; and a climbing wall, laser tag and zorb football.

Wimbledon Times:

Wimbledon Guild chief executive Wendy Pridmore said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came along and played a part in making our biggest annual fundraising event such a fantastic day out. We hope all of our visitors had a fabulous day.”
