This year’s Morden Hall Park Country Show was another runaway success with ‘tens of thousands’ attending over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The popular annual event was ably assisted by the fine weather which encouraged hundreds of families to venture along to the Morden Road National Trust house over the three days.

It was opened by the mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung, and star attractions included a birds of prey flying display, terrier racing and miniature steam engines, as well as stalls, crafts and performances.

Stuart Barnes made a welcome return with his dog and duck herding show and was a big hit with young visitors, said the director of Oakleigh Fairs, Emma Owen, which organises the event.

She added: “Overall it was an absolutely fantastic weekend. Local people see it as their event and want to support it.

"I think everyone had been cooped up at home due to the run of bad weather, so when the sun shone down on us we got a great turn-out.

“It’s great that we’re able to bring people into Morden Hall Park, who may not have been for a while. They’ll enjoy it and think ‘we must come back’.”

The show was the result of a year’s intense planning and work is due to begin almost immediately on organising next year’s event.

Ms Owen said: “We like to mix things up a bit to keep things fresh. I can’t reveal what we’re planning for 2017 yet, you’ll have to wait and see.”
