An inquest has been opened into the death of a man who died after “coming into contact with chemicals” at his Mitcham home.

Jamie Thomson, 36, was taken to a south London hospital from his home in Carshalton Road in a critical condition at 3.45am on Monday, November 16.

He died in hospital just after 7am on the same day. His inquest will begin on April 19 at Westminster Coroner's Court.

Police, who said the death was being treated as “unexplained”, closed Carshalton Road and searched neighbouring homes after Mr Thomson was taken to hospital.

A police spokesman at the time said enquiries were continuing, but there was no evidence to link the death to terrorism or extremism and they were not aware of anybody else injured or taken ill.

Police were not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Thomson’s death.
