High profile country music mogul and Wimbledon resident Mervyn Conn has been charged with the historic rape and indecent assault of a teenager.
Mr Conn, 81, of Convent Way, Wimbledon, who helped to launch the career of music legend Johnny Cash, was charged on Tuesday, February 2, over a sexual assault in the 1970s.
He faces one count of raping a woman under 16 and one count of raping a woman aged 16 years or over, as well as one count of attempted buggery with a woman.
Mr Conn has also been charged with three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 and one count of indecent assault on a woman over 16-years-old.
The incidents are said to have taken place between 1975 and 1977 in the Wimbledon, Westminster and Wembley areas when the woman was a teenager.
He was arrested at Gatwick Airport in July last year and released on bail while an investigation was carried out.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said they were awaiting an update on when he would appear in court.
