Mark Loveridge, of Borough Road, was charged last night with the morning rush hour attack in Kendor Gardens, near Morden Tube station on January 19.
He was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a 23-year-old man who was stabbed in Lewis Road, Mitcham, 30 minutes before the fatal stabbing of Mr Young.
Mr Loveridge, who was arrested by police on January 26, will appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court today via video link.
Detective Superintendent Paul Monk told the Wimbledon Guardian that Mr Young died of a single stab wound, which the police believe was inflicted by a knife.
University lecturer Mr Young, 30, was on his way to work at Coventry University’s London Campus, near Liverpool Street, where he had begun a job as a teaching fellow just the day before.
Two other men have been arrested in relation to the attack and released on bail.
