The first ever Mitcham Heritage Day is on the horizon bringing with it the opportunity to appreciate some of the area’s quaint surroundings.
The day is free and is run by the Mitcham Cricket Green Community and Heritage society.
Throughout the day, people will be able to take part in walks, have tours of local historic buildings, and go to various exhibitions that are not usually open to the public.
Planned events include a photographic exhibition at Vestry Hall, an insight into the history of St Peter and St Paul Church, and a tour of the Canons.
In addition, a cricket match has been organised with refreshments available at the pavilion as well as at Mitcham Methodist Church throughout the day.
Organiser and trustee of Mitcham Cricket Green Community and Heritage society, Sandra Vogel said: "We decided to coordinate a heritage day to bring together lots of organisations that are already working in the local area to run a series of activities.
"There will be all kinds of things going on throughout the day.
"This gives people the opportunity to do and see lots of exciting things in the local area which aren’t usually noticed or even open to the public."
The timing of guided tours has been purposefully planned so that it is possible to do all of the activities during the course of the day.
Mitcham Heritage Day is taking place on Saturday, September 19.
