A memorial day to honour two members of a Merton rugby club who died this season raised £4,500 for charities.
The Double K Memorial Day event at Old Rutlishians Club in Poplar Road, Merton Park, was organised to honour seniors player Ken Haw and 15-year-old rugby fan Kyle McInerney who collapsed and died suddenly on the side of the pitch last May.
The sporty teenager had been playing with his beloved Old Ruts team during a pre-season warm-up.
Mr Haw, a keen sportsman in his thirties, died last year of a heart attack, the club said.
Two rugby matches, a raffle and donations in aid of grief charity Jigsaw4u and the Cardiac Exercise Club totalled £4,500, even though the aim of the day was to remember the pair rather than raise money.
The event was held on Saturday, March 21 at the Old Rutlishians Club.
