Residents and healthcare professionals have chosen a site for a new health centre in Mitcham.

A consultation asked people to vote on their favourite location out of four possible sites for a new health centre in the east of the borough.

The Wilson Hospital has been recommended as the best place and will be presented in a report to Merton CCG’s governing body meeting on Thursday, January 29.

If the governing body endorses the report, it will be submitted it to NHS England for approval.

Following the public consultation last year, a board of representatives from Merton CCG, Healthwatch and Merton Council looked at the results and made the final choice.

Lynn Street, director of quality at Merton CCG, said: "I would like to thank the members of the public who helped us reach the decision on the recommended site for this much-needed development.

"Through our engagement events, online survey and meetings with local groups we have had much useful feedback in how we take forward this development and help improve health services to the east Merton population."

The sites being considered were Birches Close, Raleigh Gardens, Sibthorpe Road and the Wilson Hospital.

Although the final cost for the facility has not been determined, similar projects have costs about £25m.
