The gross misconduct hearing of former Merton police borough commander Darren Williams has been put back until April.

The delay will mean it will be more than 14 months since he was suspended on January 7 before any resolution can take place.

From Dec 16: Taxpayer shelling out £80,000 a year for suspended former Merton police boss

Police have confirmed that due to the unavailability of some parties, Mr Williams' hearing has been delayed until the end of April.

It had been due to take place this month following his suspension from duty in January last year while the investigation continued.

He is facing the hearing, to be held in private, in relation to inappropriate behaviour - though the details of what this is alleged to have involved have not been made public.

In December after 11 months of waiting for news Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhain McDonagh said: "This is not right for the taxpayer and not right for Darren Williams for it to be left so long unresolved.

"It is a huge waste of money plus it must be distressing for him.

"He did a good job when he was in Merton."
