A mother whose lip was sliced open by glass while eating a KFC box meal is warning others to be careful.

Sam Fryer had collected a Wicked Zinger box meal after a busy day with friends and their children and took it home to eat with one of her three daughters, Sky, aged six.

When tucking into the chips, to her horror she crunched on something she said felt like a filling but was in fact a glass shard.

The mother-of-three, 27, returned the meal to the Mitcham branch of KFC in London Road and later had a tetanus injection on her doctor’s advice.

A spokesman for KFC said investigations were being carried out but he is confident the glass did not originate from the restuarant.

Miss Fryer, of London Road, Mitcham now hopes to highlight the incident to warn others to be vigilant when eating out.

She said: "I don’t want anyone else getting cut, especially kids - it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

"It’s disgusting.

"I felt a crunch and thought it was a tooth or a filling.

"It was some glass, it cut my mouth."

She said it was like crunching on an egg shell and there was also a hair in the Popcorn chicken, which are small bite-sized pieces of chicken which are breaded and fried.

The Zinger meal is made up of a burger, hot wings, chips and sweetcorn.

When she returned the food the following day, the store manager offered her a free meal and gave her a refund but after her experience she was not keen on eating there again.

She added: "My six-year-old daughter saw I had hurt myself and she is refusing to eat there now."

Miss Fryer said she swallowed some of the glass which was about the size of a fingernail and has sent the rest off to be analysed by KFC’s headquarters, with which she lodged a complaint.

The family used to visit KFC about once a week to pick up food including popcorn chicken and burgers but have not been back since it happened on Saturday, November 15.

The KFC spokesman said: "We're sorry to learn of this and are investigating as a matter of the utmost importance and urgency.

"We have robust in-store and supplier checks and processes in place to prevent this kind of incident from happening and the only glass we have in the restaurant are lighting bulbs, which have all been checked and no defects were found.

"We are very confident the object did not originate from restaurant and our customer team will provide the customer with a full response once our investigation is complete."
