Elderly people can now sit down in comfort after a memorial bench was unveiled to honour a former day centre visitor.
An event complete with a Frank Sinatra tribute singer and refreshments unveiled the bench in memory of Lily Simpkins at the Woodlands Day Centre in Cavendish Road, Colliers Wood.
Almost £700 raised at the 90-year-old’s funeral last month paid for the bench at the place she loved visiting every week day for three years.
Centre users take a break on the memorial bench with Karen Connell, right, and Janet Hooper, left.
Her daughter Karen Connell said: "She loved going there.
"Every time she went she wrote in her diary she had a good day.
"They gave my mum a reason to live and they gave me my life back – they gave me respite."
Woodlands House provides personal care, nursing and specialist Dementia care and is run by C&C which has two other properties in Raynes Park as well as other places in London.
The bench is engraved and dedicated to Mrs Connell’s late mother and is now available for users of the centre to use whenever they like.
Mrs Connell joined centre staff and centre users for the unveiling on Tuesday, November 11.
